When I first started photographing roller derby the first team I followed was Severn Roller Torrent. My mate Alex & I had photographed a few of their bouts & had developed a good rapport with the roller derby girls. After a while of shooting sports photography for them, Alex & I approached the team to discuss setting up a portrait photography session. The aim of this portrait session was to focus on the girls’ on-track personas. Get them to dress up & model, kind of cosplay style.
After some discussions they agreed & we organised a day to get together & photograph the portraits. It was a very long day in the end but what a result! We had a lot of fun playing around with different setups & getting the girls to pose… Trying to come up with poses that suited their on-track personas wasn’t easy either. In the end, this was an amazing portrait photography session, made better by a great group of creative &, at times, outlandish models.
So here you have a small selection from the team who came to the day, in all their glory;
Alpha Lima L98,
Mustang Mitch 22,
Buccaneer Betty Fear,
